“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Pet. 2:9-10 ESV)
In these verses, Peter reminds us that God has chosen us and set us apart for His purpose. Additionally, He has also placed us in a position which requires spiritual excellence on our part to proclaim the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Those who have accepted Jesus Christ are offered a new position in the Kingdom dynamic. As a “royal priesthood” and “holy nation” we are called to go forth and spread the gospel message, bringing His wonderful light into a world of darkness.
It is a privilege to be called and set apart by God to fulfill His purposes in this world. This call should be seen by the believer as a privilege in which He empowers us to accomplish the work of Christ. As members of the “royal priesthood” and citizens of the “holy nation” we must go forth and spread the message to a dark and dying world.
The mercy extended to us in Christ is the mercy we are called to extend to all; so that, those “who once were not a people,” will experience the privilege of becoming “the people of God.”
Pray that God might fulfill his purpose in you by asking, “Dear God, use me to fulfill your purpose in this dark world. I wait upon the leading of the Holy Spirit to fulfill Your purpose in me and through me. May I always remain steadfast to the call and mission you have placed before men, that through me others might come to know you as I do.” — Amen
