Matthew 7:16-20

16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

Bearing good fruit results from the believer’s walk in the Holy Spirit. Conversely, the danger of producing bad fruit comes through one’s desire to walk their path, contrary to the will of God. This is true of all who seek their glory over glorifying Jesus Christ with their lives. In our passage, Jesus warns us that the fate of those who seek to glorify themselves is to be “cut down and thrown into the fire.” Jesus’ words serve as a strong warning to the believer to place our service to Christ above our service to self and to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit continually in our walk.

What about your spiritual journey? What sort of fruit are you bearing in your service to Christ? Jesus reminds all of us the we will be recognized as his by the fruit we bear. Seek to walk in the Holy Spirit, and let the fruit you bear be the good fruit of Christ.
